How you pay for a boat on Lake Como

Once the date is agreed, a payment link arrives on WhatsApp or by email. A deposit holds the date, and the rest is settled around the day.

A varnished mahogany taxi boat under way on open water, no passengers aboard, one man standing at the helm, mountains on both shores.

The price of each day is on its page, and the deposit comes with my reply. See the half day →

Once the date is agreed, I send you a payment link on WhatsApp or by email. You pay the deposit there, the confirmation follows, and the balance comes around the day itself.

On the day, the boat takes card and cash.

Two things to ask when you write

Some operators on this lake add around 4% for card payments, and published deposits here usually run 20–30%. Both are one-line questions to ask with the date, not on the water.

Cancelling and changing the date

Those have their own rules, set out in how far ahead you need to book. The same page compares paying a platform in full with leaving a deposit.

Common questions

Why is the deposit so small?

Because on a direct booking it is a hold, not a prepayment: it commits the boat to your date and you to showing up.

Do they take card on board?

Yes, card and cash both. Paying cash sometimes earns a small gesture, a modest discount or a spritz on the house.

Can I get an invoice?

Yes. Ask when you book, and have the billing details ready.
