I work on Lake Como from the water. Everything on this site — the crossing times, the hours the wind picks up, where you can actually stop — comes from doing it, not from reading about it.

Why this site exists

Most of what is written about this lake is written by people who visited once, or by people selling something. Both produce the same thing: pretty pages that do not tell you what time to leave, or which dock to stand on.

Every specific claim here carries where it comes from and when it was checked. When something has not been measured, it says so instead of guessing. How that works →

What I do

I have taken these boats out myself, and I have read every message this business has received — this one and the operation I ran before it. Those two things together are the whole reason this site exists.

Being on the water teaches you things a map cannot: when the wind gets up, which stop is miserable at three in the afternoon, how long a crossing really takes when the ferries are running. Reading the messages teaches you something else entirely — what people are actually worried about before they book.

They rarely match. Out of two seasons of messages, the single thing people ask about most is where the boat actually leaves from — not the route, not the villas. Docks here are named after towns they are not in, and getting that wrong costs two hours of a day that only has six. Almost nobody thinks to ask until the booking is already made.

So this site answers the second kind of question with the first kind of knowledge. It carries the date each fact was checked, and it says plainly when something has not been measured yet.
